The BIG W Giant Online Toy Spectacular {+ 5 x $100 gift card giveaway!!} Congratulations Callie, Candice, Gemma, Cynthia & Melissa

June 19, 2013 · 196 comments

Have you noticed it’s almost Toy Sale season again?     My girls love reading through the catalogues and circling their favourites in the hope that I’ll notice.  My little pink is the worse offender.  She will literally spend hours of quiet time adoringly looking at all the things she might like to bring home with her and isn’t always keen to let her sisters share her special reading material.

These days kids really do seem to know what the want.  As the girls have gotten older I’ve gotten used being guided by them about what toys suit them best.   Pretty typically miss five  loves anything Dora and Miss Seven  is all about Barbie.  This year though my lovely  Miss nine has graduated into the family bookworm society and is obsessed with EJ12 and GoGirl Books.

This year you can view the BIG W Giant Toy Spectacular online.   (The sale actually start online today at 9pm before hitting the stores in real life on the 27th.)    Online shopping is a completely novel experience to the girls and to be honest I think they’d probably prefer to be in the shop seeing it all laid out before them.   But for a parent, when it comes to toy sale madness, its ideal.    No hassle finding a park, no late night trip out  in the cold and no dealing with  pushy impatient hordes of bargain hungry peoples.   Now that is my type of  toy sale!

The BIW W Christmas Layby services will be up and running again this year too.  For many of us toy sale season marks the beginning of Christmas shopping and layby is an awesome tool to get a head start on getting it all organised.  How smug it must feel to have Christmas all sown up in July and only have to pay it off in layby instalments. (Can you tell I’m never that organised myself?)

And so, with thanks to BIG W, my girls got their first experience with online shopping a few nights ago.  They each chose a toy they loved the look of and are now eagerly awaiting the delivery.  It was a fun experience and one filled with lots of learning opportunities!  I’ll show you what they order when it arrives!

I would stock up on all the craft items. I cannot buy this stuff fast enough for my kids. They just love to draw, paint, stick, glue and create. A huge hoard of craft items should be enough for the 4 of them and would make their Christmas. It would be fantastic over the summer when it is too hot to go outside.

my kids are deeply passionate about mario,
the figurines, the plush toys, the 80s cartoons
so they were overjoyed to see mummy could laybuy the mario kart wii u set!
Controllers, bars everything you need in one gigantic box!

Both the older boys are autistic and rather overwhelming in their nintendo obsession!

My little guy has decided he’s too big for his trike now and has taken over his big sister’s bike. It’s quite the sight watching him attempt to ride a sparkly pink bike about twice his size! I would so love to get him a cars bike that’s a bit more suited to his size. This boy practically does a backflip over a lifesaver, I would love to see his little face getting his own proper bike, he would be so unbelievably excited 🙂

11 Sarah T June 28, 2013 at 11:41 pm

My so is only 14 months old, but for him I would love the Vtech Zebra ride on scooter. He is yet to walk and I think this would be a perfect gift for him.

12 Aileen June 28, 2013 at 11:22 pm

We (ok I mean I) would love the Action Raised Cubby. As I forsee that it would take hubby at least 4 days to put that together and so he would be out of my way and then the kids would play in it for at least as long as the 15 year warranty!

13 Sandiidee June 28, 2013 at 10:44 pm

My kids are older but they would absolutely love the Red Box tools and wood construction kits. My kids are so creative and would have so much fun making these!

14 cher haining June 28, 2013 at 9:48 pm

LEGO City Town Square 60026 for my5 year old grandson. He is saving his pocket money and ‘begging’ family and friends for cash as he is saving to go toLegoland in San Dieago. No one has told him how high he is aiming.

15 Amy June 28, 2013 at 7:30 pm

Miss 4.5 has picked at least one item from each page of the BigW toy sale catalog! LOL

16 fi June 28, 2013 at 7:27 pm

My son would love the Scooby Doo Pillow Pet – I was all over town trying to find one last Xmas so this time I’d definitely order it online!

My biggest has already looked and wants some of the Barbie Mega blocks… and some barbies, and disney princesses oh, and some octonauts, and another dora kitchen – cos you know one plastic kitchen clearly isn’t enough *sigh*… and and and..

As for me I’d love to get the littlest one a walker, we don’t still have the biggest one’s around and I was made redundant 3 days before my maternity leave so we have no prospects of getting her one any time soon 🙁

20 Kell Kelly June 27, 2013 at 11:30 pm

LEGO would be first on the list,
For my eldest he’d insist.
Ninja Turtles would be a pick number two,
Imaginative play is easy to do.
Ball pit for our baby girl would be choice three,
Her favourite toy it would surely be.
To win this giveaway would be great,
With Big W prices no other shop rates!

23 ROBYN LANGFORD June 27, 2013 at 9:55 pm

27 Elyssa June 27, 2013 at 9:23 pm

To a teenage girl I love so much,
She’s always offered to babysit for us,
And while we’re gone she then cleans up,
With some help from Big W,
At Christmas I’ll say an extra thankyou! 🙂

For the 1D obsessed teen, their DVD would be “grouse”!
The gaming obsessed teen a PS VITA or Wii,
Anything Peppa fills the toddler with glee!
Books for the hubby, maybe Dan Brown’s new one,
And some Johnny Depp action would sure suit this Mum!

42 Tracy Andreatta June 27, 2013 at 6:46 pm

The jumping castle

the TMNT combat gear

50 Rochelle June 27, 2013 at 3:36 pm

A jumping castle would be so much fun, or a slippery slide too,
So much in The Toy Spectacular at Big W , it’s too hard to choose!

The BIG W toy catalogue sent my son into an excited frenzy, the Star Wars Lego set tickled his fancy… Owning that would even make my husband do a dancy!

53 Cate June 27, 2013 at 1:58 pm

A Smart Trike is what we would all choose in my household. Our son, Charlie loves to ‘ride’ his bike to the park, but it is very hard for Mum and Dad to steer (quite uncontrollable). A Smart Trike would certainly save our backs (and our toes… and many a tantrums… And our sanity).

54 Antonietta June 27, 2013 at 12:10 pm

My daughter loves the Winx Club Believix Rockin’ guitar and doll pack, exclusively at Big W- $58 and my son would love the Star Wars Ultimate FX lightsaber- $35 and Darth Vader dress up $20! For me, I’d love Santa to leave me an iPad 2 under the Christmas tree this year $398 🙂

55 sprinkles June 27, 2013 at 12:09 pm

My kids would adore some lego! Its to expensive to but alot for 3 kids, and the bickering over who is going to use the wheels, or the flower etc is hilarious but annoying lol id love foe the kids to all have thier own sets and be proud of their own designer and thoughts, rather than fighting over pieces of lego.

I have liked and shared this one facebook

56 Shelley Chandler June 27, 2013 at 11:23 am

My 2yo would absolutely love the Barbie Car! She has been looking at it for months and always says ‘mummy, car!’ when we walk past it. This would keep her amused for hours, and give me a break to put my feet up before our new baby arrives in a few weeks!

57 G Huesch June 27, 2013 at 8:06 am

My already hyper son has his heart set on the Hyper Air Hockey Table ($98). He has agreed to donate some of his other toys to Vinnies in order to make space for it in his room.

I would love to buy the Fisher Price Pullalong Telephone for the dear little grandson we are expecting on 31 July 2013. He will be able to call his Grandma on it.

61 Karly June 26, 2013 at 8:23 pm

I met my now-hubby over an intense game of air hockey (the only sport I’m good at!) and now I’d like to woop my son’s butt with the Hyper Air Hockey Table – a bargain at $98

62 Shelly June 26, 2013 at 2:58 pm

When I asked them to choose what they wanted, Miss 4 enthusiastically pointed to the bike as she is desperate to be a big girl (phew, I really thought it would be MORE tinkerbell, MORE barbie, MORE pink fluffy things), Miss 2 pointed to everything! Mummy would choose her plenty of art and craft supplies to fuel that creative spirit.

63 Jenai June 26, 2013 at 9:45 am

My 4 year old loves playing shooting games at school;
But at home, his mean mum says ‘Guns aren’t cool!’
When we go for a walk he’ll sometimes find a blue foam bullet;
And sneak it into his pocket hoping one day he’ll shoot it.
He sees other kids playing with them, and has asked for one;
Mum – when I’m 5 – can I please have a Nerf N-Strike Gun?!

loves Dinosaur Train so Buddy it would be,
My eldest 5 yr old boy,

I had so much fun placing my order online! I bought a Fisher Price walker toy and some Bathtime Bongos for my youngest. I think I might have had #4 child just so I can buy more fun toys! 😉

I also bought presents for nieces and nephews. Lalaloopsy and a few different play-doh toys.

Plus, living on a farm, had to buy a John Deere tractor too!

Can’t wait for my order to arrive! Will be like Christmas morning! 🙂

75 Adela June 25, 2013 at 7:18 am

My eldest would adore the Razor Flash Rider 360. My youngest currently has the Razor Rip Rider 360 and it’s all they want to ride on outside. They manage pretty well at taking turns but my eldest would love her own to spin on. I was happy to see Big W has this in their catalogue as I struggled for weeks to find the Rip Rider. I am a big fan of purchasing outdoor toys for gifts as they promote fitness and fun.

I guess I should be thankful that at least this one comes with it’s own storage but I’m secretly hoping that in next year’s toy catalogue Big W brings out a device that repels Lego off the carpet, possibly even with a siren that wails “Put me back in the box before Mum steps on me again”

It’s the updated version of my favourite toy as a child. I’d spend hours playing with my farm set, driving the tractor around, getting the horse to pull the cart etc. Loved it!
So would love to get one for my kids. And it now makes the animal noises as well!! How cool is that!
And with the super set there’d be enough animals for us all to play happily together, because I’m definitely joining in! I bags the tractor first! Lol.

Hi Gemma, just letting you know you’ve won a $100 gift card from BIGW on my blog The Truth About Mummy. Can you please email me an address to have it sent to asap – so I can have it sent out to you before the end of the sale. Enjoy shopping!!!

The Looping Electric Racing Set would entertain my boys for hours, (and when they are snugly in bed my partner and I would enjoy being like big kids, having a spin too)!

116 Stacey Shailer June 21, 2013 at 3:17 pm

My little man would love the Bob The Builder 33 Piece Work Bench (so he doesn’t have to keep going up to the shed to pinch his Dad’s tools apparently!), and my baby girl is right into mirrors and her reflection at the moment, so the Fisher-Price Magical Musical Mirror would be right up here alley 🙂

My daughter would love her first “Smart Trike”,
she could ride it really fast.
Riding along the driveaway,
or she could ride it on the grass.
Travelling with her favorite bunny,
affectionately known as ‘Hop’,
she’d love to ride around the house,
I’ll just need to teach her to stop!
As she builds up her confidence,
she will have more and more fun.
She will laugh and giggle at being outdoors,
learning to ride in the sun!

I’d buy the Lego Friends Summer Riding Camp Set. I love LEGO because it appeals to young and old, and encourages creativity. You also only need to purchase it once and it provides years of use – even being passed down from generation to generation and added to over the years. It’s also educational, accessible to everyone and brings the family together providing pleasurable memories for years to come.

138 Sonya n. June 19, 2013 at 10:22 pm

I’d spend it on Lego! My daughter is crazy over it and seems to want to collect every sort of Lego there is and it’s costing us a fortune. I do think it’s a great toy and I wonder if one day she’ll be an engineer or something. The good thing is she loves ‘boy’ Lego more than ‘girl’ Lego, as I have a boy toddler who is just now starting to play with Lego too, so we’ll get double the use out of it.

139 Belinda Baker June 19, 2013 at 8:37 pm

We currently have 1 ipod shared between the family (6 of us) so a second ipod has definitely been requested, and possibly even a 3rd as my boys like to listen to music for the 1/2 hour they read and unwind before bed, so I would be putting the voucher towards getting at least 1 more ipod.

We are huge lego fans,
but unfortunately we left our Lego Bucket behind in Mackay
Now we are looking at starting over again
One thing that all of our boys enjoy
is building, creating, exploring, discovering through playing.
The Lego Ninjago The Golden Dragon
would be ideal for our 14, 11, and 8 year olds
and would be good for my sanity!

My hubby, the other baby in the house (shhhhh…), would love Lego Star Wars Desk Lamp, because he’s a child at heart!

Me on the other hand, would be pleased with just a block of Cadbury chocolate, as long as I can consume it in peace.

He is completely and utterly obsessed with the TMNT, he loves the dvd’s and can watch them for hours whilst wearing his TMNT PJ’s. His favourite is Leonardo, the big brother who would do anything to help and save the family he loves.

163 Callie June 19, 2013 at 1:54 pm

Both my girls would choose the 13 Foot Trampoline with enclosure and safety pads. Our trampoline was destroyed in January in the mini tornadoes that ripped through our town. The girls miss their trampoline so much so this is what we are going to buy in the Toy Sale.
